A thousand years ago, a metal box measuring several feet in each direction fell from the sky as the world burned. Survivors of the apocalypse found it, called it a gift from the gods, and made it a central piece of their religion.
 
Now, in a rebuilt world, the box has been locked away in a government vault for many years. It would have been forgotten if it hadn't opened, allowing a very cold girl appearing to be ten years old to crawl out. She knows nothing from before, but learns the reason she was in the box: one of those lost memories was meant to stop another apocalypse.
